Environmental Monitoring to Protect Sensitive Materials

The ongoing rollout across the United States of the COVID-19 vaccine program has been defined by speed. With so much at stake, and so many at risk, professionals worked around the clock on vaccine development. This fast-tracked success story has saved thousands of lives—as many as 279,000 according to a new study by the Yale School of Public Health.

Also defined by speed: how quickly vaccines must be distributed. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for vaccine storage and handling include the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandate. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration mandates that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine should be stored at 35ºF to 46ºF.

Failures in cooling equipment or any changes in environmental conditions can have costly consequences—both financially and for patients. Hospitals, labs and health systems must constantly be on guard for temperature changes, equipment failure and accidents. There is always the need to prevent waste or loss of valuable vaccines or other sensitive materials. Real-time temperature monitoring is one of the best ways that hospitals and health systems can avoid costly mistakes.

A new partnership for protection

Last month, Midmark RTLS announced a new partnership with Primex, a global market technology leader in synchronized time, advanced environmental monitoring, mass notification and facility compliance. The Midmark RTLS and Primex partnership is positioned to simplify the purchasing of best-in-class solutions for both temperature monitoring and real-time locating system (RTLS) technology.

For Midmark RTLS customers, the partnership provides an expansion beyond RTLS solutions. Midmark RTLS already delivers asset tracking, and partnering with Primex adds environmental monitoring solutions that automate data logging across facilities.

The expertise of Midmark RTLS and Primex is now available through a single source—a local, trusted certified system integrator.

When combined, Midmark RTLS and Primex solutions complement each other. For example, Primex OneVue SenseTM proactively alerts users of changes in environmental conditions. This helps keep valuable assets safe—like vaccines, medications and fertility storage—with real-time monitoring. As OneVue Sense monitors sensitive materials, Midmark RTLS technology helps staff track mobile equipment, enhance safety and improve patient flow.

OneVue Sense environmental monitoring data can be viewed on mobile devices, via web browser and from within Midmark RTLS Enterprise View®. Regulatory compliance is improved since data is continuously logged and simple to access. When using the Primex and Midmark RTLS solutions together, facilities are enabled to protect sensitive materials while improving safety, patient care and compliance.
